Must-Have Items for Solo Survival
I had an apartment all to myself this summer. It was a frightening and exhilarating experience that definitely forced me to grow in a lot of ways. Some of the challenges were expected (getting the hang of driving in a city took some time). Others took me by surprise (how on earth can mothers identify when produce is expired?!).
Here are three things that I’d encourage anyone embarking on an exploit of solitary living to invest in:
1. Pyrex 10 Piece Storage Set: Target
Nothing makes me feel more like I have my life together than opening the fridge and seeing these lovely glass containers filled with leftovers from meals I cooked. Also great for packing lunches for your first real employment.
2. Audible subscription: audible.com
Doing the laundry, washing dishes, etc. can be a definite bummer when you’re all alone. Through rigorous experimentation, I have found that jamming out to a Harry Potter audiobook is the absolute best was to fight off any loneliness funk. Revel in the freedom to listen to the series on a constant loop without anyone judging you!
3. Fun straws: Target (cheap junk section at the front of Target = treasure trove)
I had a LOT of these pinwheel straws + assorted other fun straws in a glass jar on my kitchen table as an alternative to more floral decoration. My guests always complimented me on them, they were cheap, AND I didn’t have to worry about watering them (I was busy enough trying to keep myself alive without worrying about a plant too).
I hope these items are useful! Bonus points if you can navigate a grocery store without feeling so self-consciously clueless that you half expect an adult to approach you to offer guidance/ask where your parents are.
